International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons identified Ghana as a potential centre for the growth of African Para sport during his four-day visit in January 2022, according to Ghana News Agency reporting published by News Ghana.
A partnership for development
After meeting Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, Parsons expressed the IPC’s willingness to support Ghana and the wider continent. He connected that ambition with Samson Deen’s election as African Paralympic Committee President and Ghana’s preparations for major continental competitions.
Facilities and athlete opportunities
Ussif said the discussions considered improvements to facilities, the ability to host international events and the development of sporting talent. These were priorities for cooperation, rather than a record of completed construction or a confirmed funding allocation.
The January report referred to opportunities around the planned 2023 African Games. The inaugural African Para Games later opened in Accra on 3 September 2023, with Parsons present; that event is documented separately in this archive.
