Weldemariam marks Eritrea’s first Paralympic competition

Sibhatu Kesete Weldemariam became Eritrea’s first Paralympic competitor when he entered the men’s 400m T54 heats at the Stade de France. The IPC recorded the milestone in its 1 September 2024 Games report, alongside a photograph identifying the Eritrean athlete. Eritrea was one of three delegations appearing at the Paralympic Games for the first time in Paris, together with Kiribati and Kosovo. His race established a documented starting point for the country’s history of participation on the Paralympic stage.
