Tokyo 2020 broadcast plan expands access across African territories
Chad and Equatorial Guinea were included in a free-to-air broadcast plan covering 49 sub-Saharan African territories for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, held in 2021.
Chad and Equatorial Guinea were included in a free-to-air broadcast plan covering 49 sub-Saharan African territories for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, held in 2021. The IPC’s August announcement listed TV5 Monde Afrique for both countries. Plans included live opening and closing ceremonies and daily 52-minute highlights, available in English, French and Portuguese. The initiative formed part of Para Sport Against Stigma, supported through UK Aid’s AT2030 programme, to increase visibility and challenge disability stigma. The announcement documented planned audience access; it did not establish that either country sent athletes or had an IPC-recognised national Paralympic committee.
