Andrew Parsons and African Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen held discussions with Ghana’s national leadership about hosting an inaugural African Para Games, as reported by Modern Ghana on 7 January 2022.
Government engagement at Jubilee House
Parsons met President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House on 5 January, according to Graphic Online’s account. The engagement followed discussions with Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and explored government backing for a continental Para sport event.
Building support for a first edition
Modern Ghana reported that Deen urged the media to help give the proposed Games visibility. Ussif emphasised the value of major competitions in raising the profile of athletes with disabilities.
The discussions formed part of the planning period before Accra hosted the first African Para Games from 3 to 12 September 2023. The photographs accompanying this report show the earlier Ghana visit, not the Games opening ceremony.
