Tesfaw and Girma race to world-record gold in Paris

Yayesh Gate Tesfaw won the women’s 1500m T11 gold for Ethiopia at Paris 2024, running with guide Kindu Sisay Girma. Their 4:27.68 performance on 2 September improved the world record Tesfaw had set at the Kobe World Championships earlier that year. China’s Shanshan He took silver and South Africa’s Louzanne Coetzee bronze. Having also carried Ethiopia’s flag at the opening ceremony, Tesfaw added a major racing achievement to an already significant Paralympic experience at the Stade de France.
