Asiya Mohammed Sururu’s path to Tokyo 2020 developed through a first international rowing experience in Italy and support from family and friends. Their fundraising helped her reach a qualification event in Tunisia in October 2019, where she won her event and secured a Paralympic place. The IPC’s February 2023 profile described how competing in the PR1 women’s single sculls in Tokyo became an opportunity to learn from leading rowers. She was continuing to train with the ambition of returning at Paris 2024.
