Zakariae Derhem and Youssra Karim delivered strong performances before the Kobe World Championships.
Moroccan athletes produced prominent home performances at the Marrakech Para Athletics Grand Prix, the final stop in the series before the 2024 World Championships in Kobe, Japan.
Success in the throwing events
Paralympic champion Zakariae Derhem won the F33 shot put with 12.03 metres. Youssra Karim recorded 37.09 metres for victory in the combined F40/41 discus competition and also reached the podium in the F41 shot put.
International competition on African soil
IPC President Andrew Parsons attended the opening, toured the venue and met athletes and staff. For competitors, Marrakech offered an international test before the World Championships and the approaching Paris Paralympic Games. World Para Athletics’ report placed the home results alongside performances from visiting athletes, reflecting the meeting’s role as an African-hosted stage in the global competition calendar.
