Windhoek training camp develops African Para sport expertise
Athletes, coaches and technical personnel from 16 countries trained through the IPC’s Sport for Mobility programme.
A three-day training camp in Windhoek brought together 86 participants from 16 African countries to develop sporting and technical skills, according to an IPC report published on 9 July 2025.
Training across two sports
Held from 30 June to 2 July, the camp formed part of Sport for Mobility and involved World Para Athletics and World Para Powerlifting. Athletes received practical training, while courses addressed coaching, classification and technical-official responsibilities.
Building local capacity
Sessions covered track and field techniques, competition preparation, equipment, rules and safe event delivery. Athlete leadership and Paralympic values also featured. Sierra Leone participant Alieu Mansaray described an intention to use his technical-official training to help develop powerlifting at home. The camp’s purpose was to strengthen the people and systems supporting athletes, alongside improving performance on the track and competition platform.
