NATIONAL STORIES · SHARED AMBITION

The Para sport story of Rwanda.

Rwanda’s men made their Paralympic sitting volleyball debut at London 2012 under captain Emile Cadet Vuningabo, becoming the first team from Sub-Saharan Africa in the Games’ sitting volleyball competition. The women subsequently appeared at three Paralympics. By Tokyo 2020, the domestic pathway included 18 men’s and 12 women’s club teams, linking national representation with wider participation and disability inclusion.

Historical context is drawn from the linked IPC records. Dates and roles refer to the time of the original report.
