KIGALI, Rwanda — Participants from Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Somalia, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan have gathered for the Regional Para Athletics Mentoring Hub 2026, bringing seven countries together for training and knowledge sharing.

Learning from Rwanda’s experience

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons is in Rwanda as a resource person for the event, which includes classroom learning and practical Para athletics sessions.

Speaking during the programme, Parsons praised the National Paralympic Committee of Rwanda for sharing its experience with other countries and delivering development projects.

“I think NPC Rwanda has a lot to share with the different countries in this part of the world,” he said.

Parsons explained that NPC Rwanda had applied for funding to organise the event and commended its willingness to take up opportunities made available by the IPC.

“And they deliver, which is more important,” he said.

Changing lives through Para sport

He also emphasised the wider purpose of the Paralympic Movement.

“It’s about changing lives, changing perspectives,” Parsons said, highlighting the vision of “creating a more inclusive world through Para sport.”

From classroom to track

Photographs from the hub show wheelchair racing and seated throwing activities alongside classroom sessions. The gathering provides an opportunity for participating countries to exchange practical experience and strengthen support for Para athletes across the region.
