Accra workshop develops athlete pathways for Ghana, Malawi and Zambia
Three NPCs worked on two-year development plans through the Para Sport Against Stigma project.
Representatives of Ghana, Malawi and Zambia met in Accra in late November 2021 to develop stronger routes into Para sport, through a three-day workshop linked to the Para Sport Against Stigma project.
Planning for participation
Two representatives from each NPC worked with IPC staff and consultants on two-year athlete-development plans. The exercise examined national structures, access to sport, talent identification and preparation for competition, while helping participants identify gaps in their existing arrangements.
Sport and changing attitudes
The project combined athlete development with education, broadcasting and research to address disability-related stigma. It was delivered by the IPC, Loughborough University London and the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College within the UK Aid-funded AT2030 programme. The workshop connected organisational planning with the broader aim of making Para athletes more visible and increasing opportunities for participation in the three countries.
