Luanda discussions set out continental Para sport roadmap
AfPC and African Union Commission representatives discussed development, inclusion and a proposed continental Games.
The African Paralympic Committee and African Union Commission met in Luanda on 2–3 April 2018 to discuss expanding Para sport and strengthening its contribution to social inclusion across the continent.
Building public support
The AfPC-led meeting followed earlier discussions between its president, Leonel da Rocha Pinto, and African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat. Participants also met Angola’s sports minister, Ana Paula da Silva do Sacramento Neto, who reaffirmed government support for the initiative.
A programme of action
The discussions produced a roadmap and action plan intended to mobilise African Union member states around Para sport development. Proposals included organising an inaugural African Para Games in 2019. That date was a planning ambition recorded in the contemporary report, rather than evidence that the Games took place then. The meeting documented a stage in building support for continental competition and national participation.
