Benin training strengthens eight African NPCs
Programme leads trained in Cotonou to support stronger national Para sport organisations.
Eight African National Paralympic Committees took part in capacity-building training in Cotonou, Benin, as the Agitos Foundation expanded a programme intended to strengthen Para sport organisations and the opportunities they provide.
Skills for national programmes
The workshops concluded on 13 August 2017. Prospective programme leads from Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo learned how to facilitate workshops, share knowledge and administer national activities within a two-year mentoring process.
Inclusion within the organisation
Training also addressed inclusive physical education and the participation of women in leadership. A separate course prepared French- and English-speaking educators, who then gained practical experience. The initiative formed part of the NPC Development Programme supported by Toyota, with the longer-term aim of helping committees build partnerships, improve professional practice and develop sustainable pathways for Para athletes.
