Gamo builds powerlifting ambitions after Tbilisi progress

Modou Gamo’s second World Para Powerlifting Championships appearance demonstrated his progress as Gambia’s international representative. At Tbilisi 2021, he lifted 150kg in the men’s over 107kg category, improving by 30kg on his result at the 2019 Worlds. An IPC feature published in January 2022 explored how his example was encouraging younger Gambians to try the sport. Gamo was looking towards further world-championship competition and a possible Paris 2024 qualification campaign; these were ambitions reported at the time, rather than confirmed future outcomes.
