Onyinyechi Mark wins debut Paralympic gold with record lifts

Onyinyechi Mark won the women’s up to 61kg Para powerlifting title at Paris 2024 on 6 September. The reigning world champion lifted 147kg in her final regular attempt before completing a separate 150kg Power Lift for another world record. Her first Paralympic campaign thus produced both gold and a new benchmark. In the IPC interview, Mark credited training and the example of Nigerian teammates Lucy Ejike and Bose Omolayo, while setting out an ambition to defend her title at LA28.
