South Africa completes wheelchair tennis double in Abuja

Men’s and women’s teams won African qualification at a tournament with record regional participation.

South Africa won both titles at the 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup African Qualification in Abuja, Nigeria, securing places in the international team competition after a record regional field.

Two finals against Morocco

Eliphas Maripa and Alwande Sikhosana delivered a 2–0 victory in the men’s final. Mariska Venter and Kgothatso Montjane then completed the women’s success, also beating Morocco 2–0. The victories returned both teams to World Group competition in Türkiye.

A wider competitive field

The ITF reported ten nations, 16 teams and 43 players across the two draws. Rwanda reached the men’s semi-finals, while Tanzania progressed to the women’s last four. Coaches used the event to underline the value of more African tournaments and training opportunities. The week combined established players’ success with competitive experience for a growing range of national teams.
