Algeria and Uganda occupied the first two places in the men’s 1500m T46 at Rio 2016, with Samir Nouioua winning gold and David Emong taking silver. The IPC’s report of 16 September documented a powerful final lap from Nouioua and a determined chase by Emong.
African success on track and in the throwing circle
Nouioua finished in 3:59.46 after covering the last lap in 56.28 seconds. Emong followed in 4:00.62, while Australia’s Michael Roeger earned bronze in 4:01.34. The result placed two African national teams together at the front of a closely contested distance final.
Algeria also celebrated Asmahan Boudjadar’s victory in the women’s shot put F33. Her 5.72m performance set an African record and secured gold ahead of Qatar’s Sara Hamdi Masoud. These results added both track and field achievements to Algeria’s campaign and an important Rio podium finish for Uganda.
