Cairo seminar expands Arabic-language Para canoe training
Classification and coaching education supported national federations seeking to develop Para canoe.
Cairo hosted the International Canoe Federation’s first Arabic-language Para canoe seminar on 11–15 December 2025, combining classification and coaching education for national federations developing the sport.
Technical skills for national programmes
Supported by an IPC Sport Technical Training grant, the seminar included a three-day classification course and a coaching course addressing recruitment, adapted equipment and athlete development. Representatives attended from Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Sudan and Tunisia.
Building on African momentum
The ICF reported 15 new national classifiers, while federation presidents from Somalia and Palestine joined the final day. Organisers connected the initiative to momentum created by Algeria’s Brahim Guendouz and his Paris 2024 gold medal. The course aimed to help federations establish activity locally and prepare athletes for international competition, with technical expertise forming part of the foundation for wider participation.
